WHY TRAVEL TO GHANA?

In Ghana you will often hear people say ‘feel free’ meaning you are free to be yourself. Ghanaians are known for their hospitality and friendliness. Ghana is a politically stable, safe and peaceful country. People are relaxed and carefree, enjoying the rich heritage of music and culture, which they love to share with visitors. You will hear music and rhythm and see people dancing in the street at any time of the day or night. Anyone with an interest in African music and culture will absolutely love Ghana.


The Republic of Ghana is unique in so many ways. Colonised by Britain, the official language is English, but it is rich in many different dialects within it’s ten regions. The most common languages are “Ga”, “Twi”, “Ewe” and “Awsa”.

Ghana is near the equator with warm and humid temperatures and has a wet season in July / August. Nungua is a coastal town approximately 20km South East of Accra, the capital of Ghana West Africa.
Ghana is home to the Kpanlogo drum, rich in culture and warm in sound. Each region of Ghana has its own style of music, song, dance and instruments. Under Bortier’s tutelage you will be exposed to and learn rhythms and dances from different regions of Ghana but also other countries of West Africa. Be sure to carry a hanky or face cloth around with you to mop your sweaty brow or waive in the air if you get whisked into a spontaneous street performance!
